Walk-a-thon (Contact: Jennifer Pickering, picker@suscom-maine.net) Come join us for the Walkathon to raise money for fuel assistance for the people of Harpswell. Registration will be at the George Mitchell Field at 9:00 am on July 27th. The course is 1.2 miles long. All are welcome to participate. Come as one or as a family. You can either get people to sponsor you or you can just pay as you register. The great thing about having sponsors is that your employer may match the amount that you raise through your sponsors. More information and Sponsor forms can be found at most establishments around Harpswell. It will be a lot of fun and it is for a great cause. Pie Contest (Contact: Helene Chase 833-2351;chasehelene@suscom-maine.net) If you like to bake fruit pies, this event is for you. The Harpswell Festival is holding a Pie Contest and you could be declared the Grand Champion! Everyone is invited to enter. This year some really good pie bakers are judges, so they can’t enter the contest, which narrows down the field. We have as judges: Jean Hathaway, baker extraordinaire; Carrie Munsey, the wonderful baker for Holbrook's; Joanie Parent, Vice President, Cook's Lobster House; Melinda Harris Richter, Owner of Island Candy Co. and an expert taster; and Patty Ruppert, food critic.
Entry forms with the rules and other details are available at the usual local spots. Anyone wishing to bake an extra pie is encouraged to do so. After judging all pies will be sliced and sold to the public. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local fuel assistance fund. More information here; Entry form here
